DANIEL ORSON YBARRA

Exhibition “Seedlings”

The recent works of Daniel Orson Ybarra stem from the observation of nature and the dynamics surrounding it: the process of growth, generation, and inflorescence, which ranges from the restrained intensity (of potential, of the future) to the expanded, relaxed, and specialized expression of its form—fruits, flowers, leaves, roots. These paintings, collages, and assemblages share the logic of previous paintings: games of colored shadows, iridescent lights passing through foliage that Ybarra renders with a slight blur upon which the paint is laid to attempt to soften the naturalistic reference and cautiously and slowly shift it towards the realm of abstraction.

Biography

Of Russian and Basque descent, Daniel Orson Ybarra was born in Montevideo (Uruguay) where his paternal family had emigrated from Bilbao and Saint-Jean-de-Luz, while his maternal grandparents were from Moscow and Odessa. He currently lives between Geneva and Barcelona and is the father of three children.

His works are part of several permanent collections in museums, art centers, and foundations around the world, as well as private collections.
